Dog sledding

Lead a team of eager huskies through the snow-covered Arctic landscape. We start the adventure with a lesson on how to control your own husky team. Two people share each sled (a driver and a passenger) with the option of switching places halfway. The adventure ends with a delicious snack.

Winter Northern Lights Watch

Malangen Resort is in one of the best Northern Lights hotspots in the Tromsø area. The “watch” gives our guests the opportunity to see the mysterious Northern Lights. We start our magical journey with a briefing about the natural phenomenon and the prevailing Northern Lights conditions before we set off to our very own wilderness camp, Camp Nikka, which is just a 20-minute walk from the resort.

Sami storytelling and Reindeer feeding

Join us on a journey through Sami culture. The Sami are the indigenous people living in the northern extremities of Europe. Join us in a lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent) to hear fascinating stories about the indigenous people’s way of life, their history and beliefs, in the glow of the fire. After visiting and feeding the reindeer, you will see traditional Sami objects and taste authentic Sami food.

Snowshoeing under the evening sky

Being outside in the evening increases your chances of experiencing the Northern Lights. Snowshoeing under the evening sky is an informative activity that takes you out and about in the white winter landscape at the resort. With only our headlights showing the way, we walk up to where the winter wilderness starts, just above the resort. Sheltered from artificial light sources, we explore open areas that are ideal for observing and photographing the Northern Lights.

Snowy Forests on Skis

We start with the basics and take you on a short cross-country skiing trip through snow-covered forests. Get ready to slide, fall on the soft snow and laugh! We will ski on groomed trails. More experienced skiers can ski in the area and create their own trails. The guide will adapt the activity to suit the conditions and the guests’ skiing skills.

Skitur

Snowmobile experience

This excursion is designed for those going on a snowmobile adventure for the first time. The scenic route lies between high Arctic mountains. We drive on a groomed trail in a wide-open area on frozen ground past small, picturesque forests. We drive in pairs (one driver and one passenger) with the option of switching places halfway.

Trappers’ Day on Snowshoes

Learn about how to survive in the wilderness like the famous Norwegian explorers did. This exciting and informative activity combines the joys of snowshoeing in the snow-covered forest with practical and fascinating information from our knowledgeable wilderness guide.

Hot tub

One of the most exclusive facilities at our resort are the wonderful hot tubs situated on the quayside. This is the perfect spot to let the stresses of everyday life melt away while enjoying the stunning views of the fjord and surrounding mountains.

For adventurous guests and those wishing to really test their limits, we recommend a refreshing ice bath in the cold fjord before returning to the warmth of the hot tub. This experience is rewarded with an “Arctic swimmer” certificate. Although this may sound daring, it’s an invigorating experience that leaves you with a sense of joy and vitality.

Sauna

Our sauna has an idyllic location on the quayside. You can genuinely experience the ultimate sense of tranquillity and wellbeing while enjoying the impressive view of the majestic fjord and snow-capped mountains.

With its glass front facing the fjord, our sauna enables you to experience the beauty of Malangen in a unique way. Whether you warm up in the sauna before or after an ice bath, you will quickly discover this is the optimal way to find harmony between hot and cold and really explore the amazing nature-based experiences Malangen has to offer.

Arctic tasting

Get a glimpse into the mythical past of Viking age drinking customs and learn about high-tech alcohol production at the top of the world. During this exciting tasting, you will see, feel and smell Arctic ingredients used in the production at the world’s northernmost distillery – Aurora Spirit.

Experience the seven peaks

Seven of the mountain peaks on the Malangen peninsula are about a 30-minute drive, making them easily accessible with transport from the resort. Various routes up the mountains have been mapped by ski touring and avalanche expert Espen Nordahl, who has literally written the book Ski Touring in Troms. Nordahl has combined his own experiences with the knowledge of experienced locals when working out the routes up and down the mountains.

Children

Malangen Resort is a place where the whole family can have unforgettable experiences – hiking or skiing in the mountains, swimming or fishing in the fjord or ice fishing in a frozen lake. Young and old alike can create nice memories here together as a family.
